Hey babes, happy first day of SPRING! Today I’m sharing a double post… all about how to get great skin AND this adorable mauve choker top and sunnies!
Skincare is something I always struggled with as a teenager and in college. I didn’t think it was a big deal, and I didn’t want to spend what little money I had on it. But now, as an adult, I know that it is easily the most important piece of any beauty routine. It took me a long time to be really invested in my skincare, and sometimes I’m still not great at remembering to do things (especially at night!) but I’m working on it! Your makeup is only going to look good if the skin underneath it looks good. I would 100% rather invest more money in my skincare than my makeup!
So, I wanted to share my own personal routine and hopefully give y’all some helpful tips on taking care of your skin! My routine is pretty basic. I don’t really get too complicated with too many products!
I cannot stress enough how incredibly important washing your face every night is. Especially if you wear makeup on a daily basis! It is literally like nails on a chalkboard to me when people tell me they don’t wash their face at night. The makeup artist in me just can’t handle it!! LOL… but seriously, there are so much germs and bacteria and just CRAP on our skin. Even if you DON’T wear makeup, you should be washing your face at least every night. I like to use makeup wipes (these are my favorites!) in the mornings to refresh before I put my makeup on. It’s so important to either wash your face or use a makeup wipe in the morning because throughout the night you are sweating and producing oil even if you can’t see it. My favorite cleanser is the Philosophy Purity Cleanser. I’ve shared this product before in a previous post, but I really love it! I have used it for years and anytime I try something else I always go back to Purity. It also doubles as a shampoo for your makeup brushes which is awesome. It has a really nice, clean smell to it and it just melts the makeup right off. I use this every night to wash my makeup off!
You should always use a toner right after washing your face. Why? Because it removes every last bit of dirt/makeup/excess oil that is left after you wash your face. I know it’s hard to believe, but just washing your face does NOT remove everything! Using a toner will ensure that your skin is squeaky clean. I also like to use this in the mornings (after my makeup wipes and before moisturizer) to give my skin a little refresh before I do everything else. You want to stay away from toners that have alcohol in them, as this dries out the skin. Toner also hydrates, balances pH levels, and tightens pores. There are tons of different toners out there, all for specific needs. I really like the Mario Badescu Cucumber Cleansing Lotion because it helps control oil in the t-zone (which is where most people get the oiliest) and it’s gentle on my skin.
Another step that is a MUST! Moisturized skin is less likely to wrinkle. Need I say more? If you keep your skin hydrated you will avoid dryness (duh) but also uneven texture, fine lines, and wrinkles. This is absolutely necessary for me as my skin is maturing. Even if you’re 21, you should be taking care of your skin preventatively. I moisturize every morning before putting makeup on. You should also moisturize every night (this is the one I struggle with!) I use a lot of different moisturizers, but the one I’m using and loving right now is the Algenist Splash. I really like how it soaks into the skin quickly and doesn’t feel greasy. This moisturizer is great for all skin types, and has alguronic acid and algalyte complex which instantly penetrate the skin for maximum hydration. I also really like that it’s formulated without all the bad stuff (like parabens, sulfates, synthetic dyes, etc.) It is also hypoallergenic which is great because my skin can sometimes be sensitive when it come to skin care products.
Along the same lines of moisturizing is EYE CREAM. This is so important because eye creams/gels are specifically formulated for the delicate and sensitive skin on/around the eyes. Have you ever wondered why that’s one of the first places you start noticing aging and wrinkles? The skin in that area is super thin and weak. It NEEDS hydration. I do this step every morning along with my moisturizer, and I try to do it every night before bed also. The product I’ve been using for a couple of years now is the Algenist Complete Eye Renewal Balm. This eye cream is good for all skin types. It helps with fine lines and wrinkles, puffiness, and dark circles. It has so many amazing benefits, and it WORKS!
This is something I’ve never been good at doing regularly, but I’m getting better! I’ve talked before about the Glam Glow masks, and they are still a favorite of mine. I use the Powermud Dualcleanse Treatment and I LOVE how it makes my skin feel super clean and hydrated. It helps with dullness, uneven texture, oiliness, and dryness. Doing a mask once a week is a goal of mine. I’ve been trying to do them on Sundays, and I’ve noticed a big difference in my skin!
Okay y’all, that’s all the skin care that I use on a regular basis/every day. If you have any questions about what kinds of skin products you may need, don’t hesitate to ask! I’d love to help!
